At FCA Lacrosse, we are constantly striving to build a culture that reflects the Gospel. While we enjoy success on the field, who we are off the field will ultimately define our organization. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes looks at four core values that defines the Christian athlete–service, integrity, teamwork and excellence. As we go through our Spring Huddle Series we will continue to implement the core values ofbeing a follower of Christ while building on our Fall Theme “SOLID.”This spring and summer our ministry theme is STRONG, based on 2 Timothy 4:7, which says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” In Paul’s second letter to his apprentice Timothy, he is at the end of his road. He is imprisoned and is about to face his death. Everyone has deserted him and he is spending his last days chained up in a cold dungeon. He’s lonely and the churches he started are being persecuted under Emperor Nero. Paul has had some mountain top experiences in his ministry, but at this point he was most certainly in the valley. However, while we see Paul at his darkest hour in this letter, we also get a glimpse at how strong his faith truly was. In the face of death, Paul could confidently say that he fought the good fight, he finished the race and he remained faithful. He knew that the life waiting for him in heaven with Jesus Christ was far greater than anything he had ever experienced on earth. There, he would be made perfectly right and live in eternal harmony with God. Where does Paul finds such confidence and hope? His eternal security in heaven was a result of his faith. His concern is not that he has been a success, but rather that he has been faithful to his Lord. Our theme verse will hopefully serve as a constant reminder of the importance to living your life forJesus Christ in all that you do.
